The remnants of the former moated castle Frenz Castle are situated in the same-named village in the community Inden. In the year 1104 there were already first certified references of the moated castle at the Inde river, because then Harpern de Fragenzo acted as a witness for the Cologne archbishop. But only in 1226 was the Frenz Castle itself mentioned. Its builder was the earls von Limburg. The castle and the village were acquired by the noble family those of Merode in the 14th-century, where it stayed until 1826. Then the bursary officer J.W. Gräf inherited the castle. His children, then sold the castle to the rich factory owner Cockerill. Then in 1916 the Langerweher leather manufacturer Gustav Kreuder became the new castle owner and also the owner of around 590 acre land.

A fish farm in the ca. 4,6 ha large ditches offered a good source of income then.
Terrible fights took place on the castle terrain between Germans and American in autumn 1944. In 1956 the Frenz Castle came to the Rheinbraun. These demolished the castle in 1964. Only the outbuilding remained. Today the terrain of the once so proud moated castle is being used privately.
